products contain BDE-47, a popular fire retardant, which may cause neurodevelopmental damage. Phthalates, which are used to thicken lotions and make plastics flexible, disturb the development of reproductive organs. And, pesticides are harming more than just the bugs. In fact they are present in flowers from garden, lawn, produce and even in some antimicrobial soaps.
According to a recent National Geographic article "The Chemicals Within", only a quarter of the 82,000 chemicals in use in the U.S. have been tested for toxicity. As a result, scientists estimate that we carry at least 700 contaminants in our body at any point in time. Some of them are excreted, others remain in our body for years! |
